Sorry for posting this novice request, but I was told to look here by an
avid Portland cyclist.

I'm trying to find someplace to buy (or even borrow/rent) a decent
(functional) used road bike to use in a few triathlons this summer (I'm
branching out from my previous world of just running 5-15k races).

I am a total novice when it comes to cycling and I am not looking for
anything in the cutting-edge performance category, just something I can use
for training and 1-2 seasons of triathlons. If I get hooked on this sport
(or cycling in general) I'll upgrade.

The reason I wrote bikes (plural) instead of bike is that my wife is in the
same situation as me, though she borrowed a mountain bike that she can use
if necessary (not real fun for the road though).

I'm 5-10" tall
My wife is 5-4" tall

If anyone has any suggestions on where to look , please let me know. I've
been checking ebay (poor results, and nothing local), Craigslist
(hit-or-miss), and Sellwood cycles. There must be someplace that all of you
unloaded your old rides, right?

Thanks in advance for any help. BTW, I'm one of the nice motorists who
always gives you guys plenty of room on the road, so don't be too harsh on
my lack of knowledge :-)
