ODOT seeks highway bike ban

My suggestion is to send your comments to ODOT's Director:

Matthew Garrett, Director
355 Capitol Street NE, Room 135
Salem, OR 97301-3871
Fax: (503) 986-3432

Webpage: http://www.oregon.gov/ODOT/

Please be objective and rationale as possible and let him know that
bicyclists pay taxes, including gas taxes, as well.

Subject: [OBRA Chat] ODOT seeks highway bike ban

News Alert:

ODOT is a proposing an increased prohibition on bicycle access to
highways and freeways that would effect existing bike routes in the
Portland Metro area.

Here are all the details including PDFs of the existing rule with
proposed changes and a 4 page statement in opposition from bike lawyer
Ray Thomas:

Even if these proposed bans don't effect you directly, we need to pay
close attention to ODOT's motivations and make sure that if their
motivations are not well-founded we are here to voice our opposition. I
fear this type of move by ODOT could set a scary precedent for limiting
our rights to the roads.
