There is no law allowing bikes through first, or even a good neighbor
Standard Operating Procedure for the Flagger community .

However, there is the first law of the right of narrowness: that which can
squeeze through gets through first. Debatable point from the vantage point
of the first law of mass: that which is big, heavy and made of metal fails
to sustain damage in pushing contests with humans.

As nice and safe as it seems, I can't stress enough that you still need
to be vigilant - a friend of mine was hit and killed by a truck after
being waved into a relatively rural construction zone in Iowa about two
years ago -

I've had exactly the same experience. They always step out of the bike
lane, always wave me through first, and are generally very nice when I
pass. Since they're out there all day in traffic on the road's
shoulder, I figure they know exactly what we're facing on our commute
and have a fair bit of empathy.

them.
They stopped, but still occupied the roadway...then the guy driving
shotgun (rear of their parade) waved me thru, while the autos remained
trapped behind. Sweet!

I've had exactly the same experience. They always step out of the bike
lane, always wave me through first, and are generally very nice when I
pass. Since they're out there all day in traffic on the road's shoulder, I
