Thursday Night Pursuit Format

Hartigan, Patrick

2006-05-08

Dear All,

Seeing that track racing has become increasingly popular, forcing
revisions and limitations on what has become a Rite of Spring, I suggest
that the following format be adopted:

(1) There will be no field limitations and no set start time
(2) All participants are urged to get onto the track as quickly as
possible and get off almost immediately
(3) Riders aged 50+ (let's make that 47+) can do whatever they like, as
long as they like, as long as no one's feeling are hurt
(4) Juniors are encouraged
(5) Women competing against men will win
(6) I will go last, again
(7) Ribbons will be awarded in accordance with calculations derived from
the humidity and participants' respective astrological charts
(8) Loose change goes to an OBRA fund for an Insider's Dinner with a few
close friends

Please accept my apologies for posting this drivel -

Pat Hartigan

We had a good turn out for the track clean up session today. I want to
thank everyone who showed up. We got lots done and the track and
surrounding area are, in general, in a lot better shape than yesterday.
I
want to especially thank the folks from Chris King who came out and
cooked
up lots of pancakes. This added a lot to the day.

Now the watch out part ... We ran out of patching material and will not
be
able to purchase any until Monday. This means that there are several
big
holes in the riding surface. If the weather cooperates I will go out
early
Monday to patch these holes. If the weather is wet Monday that will
have to
wait until Tuesday afternoon. It should be fairly easy to recognize the
open potholes. It will be a bit more of a challenge to notice the new,
not
yet cured patches. If you ride Monday or Tuesday look out for them.
Better
yet, wait until Wednesday.

Just some background..I am a student at Oregon State University studying
Exercise and Sport Science. This quarter I am taking 'Physical Activity
and
Aging.' In class we are going to be doing functional assessments in the
65+
population.

I am looking for a couple of volunteers to come to campus so my group
can
assess basic mobility, balance, functional testing, etc. This is not a
very
vigorous test and can be adjusted according to the fitness level of the
participant.

The tests will be on Tuesday, May 16th from 12:30-2pm. The only
requirement
is that you are at least 65 years old. Fitness level will vary, but that
is
what we will be testing. If you or anyone you know would like more
information or is interested in helping me with this, please email or
call.
Thank you.

George, I hate to break the news to you but the real men go longer than
3K.
3K is for the old. 2K is for the weak and feeble.

Next week we are scheduled to do pursuits. Because of the overwhelming
attendance last night we are going to start at 6 pm. We are limited to
25 pairs. Everyone will be doing a 3 K

Boys, boys.... I hate to break this up, but if a Kilo is the worst
(hardest) track race... and to finish each successively longer track
time trial requires more restraint...

Or! we can look at a 2k as 2 kilos strung together for the ultimate
pain. None of this laying around in the middle of the 3k but constant
