Hey Portland Metro-

Do you love kids and biking? Do you have the ability to volunteer
during the school day? BTA's Bicycle Safety Education program is up
and running, and we have hundreds if not thousands of kids to serve in
the next couple of months. We are seeking 'ride leader' volunteers to
help BSE instructors escort kids on neighborhood rides. The
neighborhood ride- or Community Ride- is the last lesson of our 10-hour
program. If you can imagine taking 30 kids on a bike ride, you'll
understand the need for a few adults to help out. The rides are a fun
time, promising at least one funny kid who will make you laugh out
loud. Plus- as we all know, the future of biking lies with our kids,
so come share your bike passion.

The schedule of rides is listed below. Schools that have ***** by them
to indicate a higher need for volunteers. To sign up or for more

If you think that sharing the joy and style of biking with kids would
be rewarding, please consider riding with BTA's Bike Safety Education
program. While our focus is on how to ride safely on-street (not
racing, but obeying traffic rules), the kids would really look up to a
'bike racer'. You can ride in flashy team outfits or ordinary street
clothing. The rides are very tame.

BTA needs adult volunteers to ride bikes with kids on the last day of
the program: the Community Ride Day. Kids will have already received
up to 9 hours of training prior to the ride, so your role is to remind
a group of 4-6 kids of the safety concepts, offer positive
reinforcement and make sure no one darts out across two lanes of
on-coming traffic!

The rides all take place during the school week- maybe you have free
time or perhaps your employer would be willing to let you out for a
good cause. We've trained over 25,000 Oregon kids in the last 8 years.
Grade levels include 4th-6th graders- the age group with the highest
rate of injury from bike crashes.

The rides are fun and memorable, with a few kids bound to make your day
with their show of excitement for biking. To sign up for a shift or
