I know most people try to get out of town for the Memorial Day weekend, but
if you're in town, here's an event that you can enjoy without spending any
money. It's also a way to get to know the lunatic fringe of bicycledom...
it's OK, they don't bite (mostly).

Anyway- for the past several years I've helped organize races for
human-powered vehicles at Portland International Raceway. What's a
human-powered vehicle? Think of a bicycle designed by Bill Nye the Science
Guy and you'll get close. Better yet, here's a couple photos from past

We've rented PIR for the Memorial Day weekend, so if you want to meet lots
more odd bicycle enthusiasts, come on out! Entrance to the track and
spectating is free, so it's cheap entertainment. We share the track with a
bunch of people who race little electric cars
(http://www.electrathonamerica.org/gallery.php) so things will be happening
from 11 to 6 on Saturday and from 9 to 6 on Sunday.

I've stepped away from organizing this event (six people have taken over
what I used to do) so I'll be available to show people around if you get
