AWARDS:
The Elkhorn Classic Stage race was recently presented with a state wide award as the most energetic downtown event for rural Oregon communities in 2005, by the Oregon Downtown Development Association. Claire and I received the award but it is you, the peloton, that brings the energy, support, and enthusiasm to Baker City every year! Thank you for supporting the event and the community. The Elkhorn peloton has created a unique relationship with Baker City and the event is truly welcomed and appreciated by the citizens of Baker County.

2006 UPDATES
Registration is way ahead of last year and the race is over 50% full. Many of our Oregon races have reached field limits this year. The Elkhorn will be limited to 400 riders or 100 riders per field whichever comes first. There is no race day registration and it will close June 21st, 2006.

A local artisan is preparing the awards for the top three finishers in each class. These unique, individually created fused glass plates, will be the envy of your friends and competitors!

Final prize list has not been determined but will be in the $10,000 total range.

Stage Two: ITT has been changed to a new course. Look for final details in the race bible. The course pending on the web page may have to change due to permits.

FAQ's
How do the feed zones work?
We will hand up, via volunteers, water bottles in the designated feed zones. You do not have to provide your own "feed zone helpers" but you may if you choose to do so.

Is the web page accurate?
Yes, except for the stage two ITT which may yet change. The web page is a guide, please rely on the Race Bible provided at registration and soon to be posted on the web page for final race instructions.

Refunds?
100% now through the end of May. No refunds after or on June 1st, 2006. I have a budget to work on!

Are the courses open now?
Yes, have fun and ride them lots to prepare for the race!

Is the high school open for camping?
Yes, it is $5.00 per night, per person and is a fund raiser for the volleyball team. Register at packet pick up.

What is the weather like in Baker City?
In June the average temperature is 70 degrees. Expect it to be warm but we also had snow in the valley the first year! It can be unpredictable so be prepared.

Do all categories race the same distance?
Yes, isn't that great!

Is the stage four finishing climb up Dooley Mountain hard?
I have heard several opinions on this subject. Come and ride it in 2006 and see what you think.

I have heard there is beer and food at the finish of the stage four on Dooley Mountain. Is that true?
While I cannot say for sure there will be beer, I have seen it present in years past, I can say there will be plenty of refreshments, food, and fun, at the finish line of stage four of the Elkhorn.
