Fischer, Jim E (Corvallis)
OBRA land,
If you don't know Norm Babcock, chances are you've raced in one of his
events, seen him working a race or have actually competed with him. He
promotes the Cherry Pie Road Race and coaches a team of ladies in the
Eugene area (Poplollies) as well as anybody who asks him.
Norm did not ask for this, I just thought that with all he's done for
cycling in Oregon, it would be appropriate.
The pic on the website below is of him racing at King's Estate Winery
during the last race of the Psycho Cross series. He was going in for
surgery the next day to remove cancerous parts.
The guy's an inspiration.
Read his post to our EWEB distribution below for details.
Thanks,
Jim Fischer

Subject: [ERT_Windpower] Norman's cancer update and request for help
raising money for a bike charity ride.
As you may have noticed, I have not been wearing the EWEB Windpower
green checks at any of the training rides or races this year. I have not
been riding. I have been driving for support or officiating races, but
not riding. I have coached the Poplollies women's team from a motor
scooter because I can't ride. I attempted to coach a small group of Team
in Training to prepare to ride the Lake Tahoe Century, but was not able
complete the training rides.
You most likely know I was diagnosed with cancer the summer of 2004,
after six months of chemotherapy; cancer came back to my liver. June 12
I am ending my chemo treatments.
I am now going to fight back by raising money for Leukemia & Lymphoma
Society, who raises money by people riding bikes, triathlons, and
marathons. I am raising money and coaching a group of seven or eight
cyclists to ride Peach of a Century.
I know our money is being stretched thinner and thinner, and I am asking
you to consider donating to my charity bike ride. You can send a check
to me a 1860 W 14th Ave; Eugene Or 97402. Make the check payable to the
Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. You can also visit my website at
http://www.active.com/donate/tntor/normmakinithappen and donate with a
bank card
Thanks for considering a donation, and I plan on racing cyclocross this
fall, proudly wearing the green checks
