For Immediate Release:
Seattle, Washington May 24, 2006.
The Greater Seattle YMCA is proud to announce the 2006 version of Freedom
Sports Week at Camp Orkila on Orcas Island July 3-11.
One of the key featured units in Freedom Sports Week is Mountain Biking.
Seattle YMCA Camping has formed a partnership with Rad Racing NW; which has
the distinction of being named 2003 USA Cycling Junior Club of The Year, and
designated as a USA Cycling Center For Excellence 2001-2006.
www.radracingnw.org
Rad Racing NW Coach, USA Cycling Coach, and Seattle LAJORS director Dave
Schilling will head up the mountain bike camp.
This will be designed for riders of all abilities, boys and girls grades
6-10 (Fall '05).
He will be supported by Joe Sales, Jim Brown, David Fleischhauer, Tela
Crane, Luke Brechwald and Tucker Thomas also of Rad Racing NW.
Freedom Sports Mountain Biking has been featured in Velonews and Dirt Rag
magazine.
In 2005 The Associated press did a national article on Freedom Sports Week.

In addition to the regular session, there will be an advanced unit within
the camp.
This will be designed for riders with more experience on the bike who are
looking to be challenged to increase their skills and knowledge in mountain
biking and racing.
As a baseline riders in the advanced camp should have the endurance and
skills able to ride for 2+ hours.
For younger kids who love to ride their bikes, but are not quite old enough
for the MTB camp, there will be a BMX unit taking place.
With the help of the American Bicycle Association, Redline Bicycles, and
many community volunteers... Orkila has built a National Class BMX track
onsite at the camp.
Boys and girls grades 5-10(Fall 2006) can learn from some of the best in the
business during this exciting week.
Other units that are part of Freedom Sports Week include: Skateboarding,
Ultimate Frisbee, and Archery.
Other great activities that Camp Orkila has to offer to all campers are:
Swimming, Archery, Horseback Riding, Ropes Course, Climbing Wall, Ocean
Beach, Marine Science Center, Camp Fires, and Capture the Flag, to name a
few.
Orkila has it's own 4th of July celebration with fireworks and a barbeque to
celebrate our nation's birthday.
The choice to pursue your personal best is at the heart of Freedom Sports
Week.
This camp was the brainchild of Orcas Island resident and ski film legend
Warren Miller. www.warrenmiller.net
Campers will have the chance to meet Warren during the session this summer
as well.
Warren and the YMCA recognizes and celebrate these sports.... which are a
little off the beaten path.
We want to celebrate these sports, give professional instruction, and then
help to plug kids into organizations and facilities back home that they can
continue to pursue their chosen sports.
