How do you train?

Wow Ed, not much response yet.
I think this is an interesting topic as well. I would be really interested in the responses from top riders.
As for myself (expert mt. biker, 39 yr. old)I like to ride as much as possible. In the winter of 2004-2005 I had 8 seperate 14 hour weeks on the bike. I would try to put them in blocks of 2-3 weeks if possible. The intensity is allways curtailed, there will be enough times when you can't help it but to go fast, and that is enough. Then I would take a rest week where I did maybe half of that. I usually take a complete day off per week, generally mandated by complete lack of energy or work.
During this period I was probably averaging 30 hours a week at work so this was a pretty hard schedule for me. During the summer you want less intensity, more recovery from racing. I look forward to some day being able to work less and try to train(have fun) more often. I think proper rest is key (not just sleep).
I think as you get older you learn what your body needs and do not need coaches, prescribed intervals, books, etc. Intervals happen naturally when you are riding and feeling good. If you are not feeling good you should not have accelerated moments on the bike, you are recovery riding. Drinking your fuel is critical, I prefer hammer nutrition products hammer heed and perpetuem.
Those are my thoughts...
What are the pro secrets?

I'm interested in seeing what folks are doing for training. If you have a bit of time and could send me a paragraph or two of what you do for training. That would help me out. I'll compile a list and send it back to the group so maybe it will help others out. I know one training plan for an individual isn't the same for another, all training plans are for individuals but I wanted to see an overview of what people are doing.

Curious about time in saddle, yearly mileage, time of year training times, intervals, books used or books you use, coaching service, days resting, Category you Race etc, oh yeah and secret weapons.

Thanks in advance...Ed Manning

Ed,
Do you care if the results of my "training" program are successful or not?
