disciplines.

I disagree. Road and Track are not in a state of crisis like mountain
biking. That's "nice to have" data but it's not mission critical. One of the
most common market research mistakes is to over-reach in gathering data. It
winds up diluted and without focus and doesn't answer the most important
questions that you had in the first place. Data should only be gathered when
you plan to actually do something with it.

I do agree that our gathering of MTB data should have a broad reach,
however.

Joe's idea to do the survey for the other disciplines is a good one.

If we are going to do this, let's really do it. Develop a comprehensive
survey for all disciplines. Link it to the OBRA web site. But let us not
stop there. We should try to link the survey to everyone else's sites as
well: shops, BTA, PUMP, PWTC, blogs, etc. We could use this as an outreach
tool to really see what would get more people interested in riding
competitively. Believe it or not, there are people out there who might race
but don't even know OBRA exists.
