Cook, Chris
OK folks one last chance to sign up:
Mike Murray posted information a month or so back that OBRA has been offered
the opportunity to get similar bicycle insurance to that offered by USA
Cycling. About 20 people showed interest in this, but we need a minimum of
30 to get things rolling. If you are interested in insuring your bike please
Email me (you don't need to reply to the entire list!) and I'll contact Mike
to get things started if we get enough people.
(Mark Magilner also provided interesting insight that it may be possible to
add crash insurance as an additional peril to your current renters or home
owners insurance, but unfortunately my insurance company (Farmers) wouldn't
go for this!)
The policy would cover the following:
* Damage to your bike while participating in an OBRA sanctioned event
* Damage or theft to your bike while being transported on an airline
* Actual theft of your bike
* And the policy also provides actual cash value for repair or
replacement of your bike
* You choose your favorite bike shop for repairs and/or replacements.
Exclusions include government action, nuclear hazard, war and military
action, dishonest acts, wear and tear, and/or unexplained disappearance.
Each policy carries a $30 annual minimum premium.
Bikes valued at $2,000 or less must pay the $30 minimum annual premium.
Bicycles valued at $2,000 or
more must use the premium equation which is 1.5% of bike's value
e.g. $3000 bike - $45/year premium
$4000 bike - $60/year premium
Each policy carries a $250 deductible.
My personal take on it (for what it's worth) is that it's worth it for me
because my bike isn't covered at all right now, and it's expensive enough
that I couldn't replace it straight away if it was stolen or damaged, but I
probably could rustle up the $250 deductible!

like to get this insurance.
Cheers, Chris.
