In response to the spoiling I think the method is to embrace and encourage
this is the reason OBRA has such a high racer population for city size. As
far as placements no there is not a critical need to track lets say 30th
place, we as officials try to add this component when possible so a rider
can make some sense of where the were in a 75 rider field, which could be
important when evaluating personal training.

After racing for five years in Colorado, they do not hesitate to pull
anyone in any race if you are dropped and about to be lapped or especially
if you get lapped by your group on crits or circuits. It is for safety
and also part of the game, as I have had the priviledge of hearing the
'motors' horn politely beep me and point to the gutter....off the course
and report in if you like, see you next week and thanks for playing.

It is very nice to be able to stay in but should not be expected or have
the officials have to track every one that has straggled in and wants a
placing.

Glad some folks appreciate the efforts of the officials for their time
being nice in this instance.

I thought the lapped riders stayed out of the way nicely yesterday. And
the passing riders seemed to treat them with respect.

Two cars on the course during the race was damn scary, however. Isn't
the course closed, even to vehicles which say "security"?

BTW Last year in New Mexico I never saw anybody get pulled. I finished
4 laps down in one 30 minute crit. Like OBRA, ACA tries to be friendly
to beginners. But the field sizes in New Mexico are so small that
safety issues are minimal.

However, now that I have more experience, I wouldn't mind being pulled.
Once you're out of contention, you're not racing, just doing a training
ride on a race course.

David has a point here. At every race around the country you have 15
minutes after the posting of results to protest results. (this was painfully
noted to some obra riders at Mt Hood, since the judges were all USAC
judges). After that time period they do not change things.
Riders are pulled from the fields after they are out of contention, and most
races only score the top 15.
We are trying hard to provide value added services, but you cannot expect it
at every race and not when you leave the state.
