Shimano 9/10 speed component compatibility question

I don't know but I ran 10 speed shifters and derailleur with a 9 speed crank
and had no problem, I also used both 9 and 10 speed brakes with no apparent
difference.

You could find the the spacing between the little and big chain rings
is a bit too narrow for perfect shifting with a nine-speed chain.

On the other hand, I know of some people who are using a 10-speed
crank with nine-speed and they seem to think it works fine.

Subj: [OBRA Chat] Shimano 9/10 speed component compatibility question

I have read a lot of stuff published on the internet about this, but
was
wondering if anyone out there has had direct experience with this.
The specific question I have is will the new Shimano 10 speed cranks
work with a complete 9 speed set-up (shifters, derailleurs etc). When
I
say 'work' I mean just as well as the 9 speed cranks. I have read
things about it working but the shifting is not as nice etc.

Thanks in advance,
Tom

The specific question I have is will the new Shimano 10 speed cranks
work with a complete 9 speed set-up (shifters, derailleurs etc). When I
