Patrick Hartigan
At the risk of boring everyone to tears, and I do apologize if I am wasting
your time, I offer a smattering of advice drawn from training around
Portland as well as a couple years on coast roads, notorious for logging
trucks and such. Wiser heads than mine will I think confirm the sum of my
observations, which is this:
Always assume the worst may happen.
Never vie with a vehicle for road rights; keep your ears alive for the
telltale whine of speeding cars, or for the debris-tossing noise of a
vehicle drifting into the shoulder (once you've heard it you'll not forget
that sound!); when in doubt, pull over and stop. Follow your instincts for
survival above the impulses of ego...
...and wear a helmet.
In sum, Stay upright, which beats righteousness by a long shot.
See you out there!
