I would also recommend that every one who says something along the lines of "we have the right to use the road" should also be a member of the Bicycle Transportation Alliance, which is Oregon's state wide bicycle advocacy organization. The BTA is a 501(c)(3), non-profit which spends time in the legoislature, on the local level and everywhere inbetween advocating for all bicycle users, Racers, commuters, recreational riders.

A basic membership is only $25 dollars for a whole year, which includes discounts at local shops, as well as a monthly newsletter. Think about that $25, for all of you who complained about one race costing that much.

The BTA also bring you Bridgepedal and the midsummer night's ride, as well as a bunch of other swell smaller events.

So anyone who complains about drivers, should ask themself, "What am I doing to help?". There are many things you can do, and joining the BTA is one of the best ones.

The problem is not the road. It is the irresponsible drivers, and if that determines where you ride, then there is no where to ride. there is nothing wring with the road where the accident occurred. It is a designated cycling route in the West his (Thompson Road). Often the drivers with sports cars use it to push their sports cars to the limit because of the curves, but it is an excellent cycling road and used regularly by most cyclists in the area, both commuter Cyclists and recreational cyclists. We should not tolerate being run off the roads by irresponsible drivers, as we have a right to the roads as well.
