For many of us "down south", it isn't easy to get to Portland during the work week. I bet more people will turn out as time goes on. New events take time to get themselves established, in my experience.

I thought the Mid-Summer Criterim Series was a great course; perfectly
suited for the overall "strong" rider. It was tough and it had a little bit
of everything which deviates from the typical 1k flat 4-corner crit style.
It was a great race to really get away with breakaways and moves and the
difference in scenery made it cool too. The only drawback for me: not enough
women. We had a great group of 6 women who came out, but we were all mixed
up and scored separately. Only 1 cat 4, 3 master women and 2 senior women. I
don't know if women just couldn't make it, or didn't like the idea of racing
all together but it is a great course and I would really encourage more
women to come out next week. Maybe we could stagger the start times so
everyone is racing against people in their category and maybe that would
attract more women? I don't know but come out and have a blast with this
course!
