The Dick Pound tie in was interesting. The man sure seems to relish his
role as the global enforcer.
Perhaps too much so...

He did report that he was taking cortisone on a TUE. Maybe you didn't read it
because the news wasn't as sensational as doping allegations.

Cortisone and thyroid meds are not pain killers. Get it straight.

That is exactly what an athlete does every time they are tested.

> But the fact that every single

The test isn't "suspect," it's just that it is limited in its power. The test
measures the T/E ratio. Testosterone is naturally occuring so it's impossible
to tell if the testosterone detected in the test is naturally produced or
supplemental. The positives can be overturned if riders prove that they have a
naturally high testosterone level.

Freyensee, James P

I do find a fault in Floyd here as well as with his team. All of this
stuff is starting to come out on what prescription drugs he was on-
cortisone shots, thyroid drugs, etc. It's almost like he is a walking
medicine cabinet. Why did he not state this stuff earlier? I thought
there were media reports stating he was not taking any pain medication
for his hip (quote from one of his doctors)? Shouldn't the team doctor
be looking out for for their riders, researching and trying to figure if
any prescribed drugs or even supplements that are allowed to be taken in
professional cycling could possibly trigger a false positive drug test?

Probably the best thing Floyd can do is spill his guts and state every
single thing that gets put into his body each day: food,
over-the-counter supplements, prescription drugs, plus any banned
substance if he in fact was taking them. And I think Phonak should be
taking a small bit of blame here too. But the fact that every single
positive test for unusually high testosterone levels has been overturned
makes this drug test the UCI uses suspect.

This is just a mess and it is a real shame...

The Swiss-based team said in a statement that it was notified by the
International Cycling Union (UCI) on Wednesday of "an unusual level of
Testosterone/Epitestosteron ratio in the test made on Floyd Landis after
stage 17 of the Tour de France."

From reports I have heard his ratio was 11/1
(testosterone/epitestosteron). Average is 6/1.

But they do say do to cortisone shots for the pain in his hip may have
caused this unusual level.

Shouldn't he be getting ready for hip surgery anyway? Which also reminds
me - he was supposedly getting approved cortisone shots to manage his
hip pain. Any biochemists care to elaborate on the relationship between
cortisone and testosterone?

Under the Pro-Tour team charter, a rider is prevented from competing while
he is under investigation. Phonak signed that charter and prevented Landis
from riding the crits; it was not Landis? decision.

What a shame. But I seem to becoming numb to revelations of doping. Maybe there is a chance of an error or other explanation?? Maybe not. I can not speak to whether he did or not since I was not there to witness, but in the eyes of the majority, the mass media seems to be truth enough, with the follow up story never getting enough coverage. And that for our sport is a shame.

then I guess we are just going to have to see what happens to his B sample.
