Yes, the race is on.

I am expecting about 80% of the course to be the same as last year.

BRMBA has put a lot of hours into the trail that they call the Bonzi DH re-route. They are worried that a bunch of xc racers are going to be going too fast, skidding too much, and causing damage that won't be repaired by me.

Even and Carrie have made excellent points. I thank them for doing so.

I am not sure what BRMBA means by me not being organized. My ducks have been in a row much longer this year than they have any year previously. Since things have been so lined up, I probably haven?t communicated with BRMBA like I could have.

The worst-case scenario we will be descending a much rougher trail that parallels Bonzi and then jumping back on the lower section of Bonzi. This will put the unclimbable climb back in the race so we don?t have 2 way traffic on that road (sorry Evan).

Best case, it will be the same course as last year with only a couple of small changes.

That all being said, next Saturday, the 26th, there is not a race on the schedule. How many people would come to a work day at Falls City? Having a large enough commitment from people would probably convince BRMBA that any damage would be fixed.

I just got back from Cyclepath picking up a box of stuff to be raffled off. As I was walking out the door, Bill handed me a frame. A Titus full suspension frame. "Here, raffle this off so a beginner or a sport can win it," he says.

So, all of you beginners (remember no late fees) and sports, get down there to Falls City on Sunday, race, and put your name in the hat for the new frame.

great finish to the MTB series. The course was a real challenge and lots of
fun. Also a big thanks to the Black Rock club for all the work on the area
and great cooperation with the state forestry department. We are fortunate
to have these places for our races and to just ride.

I picked up prizes for the raffle from Bill and Josh at Cyclepath this morning, amoung the swag they loaded into the back seat of my car, to my great surprise, was a KHS hard tail frame! We will raffle that off at the end of the race (after the Pro/exp finish) but the beginner/sport/ss will all be eligable for the frame, and you won't have to be present to win.

Registration will open around 8 on Sunday. Beg/Sport/SS start at 10. Pro/exp around 12:30.

See you Sunday.

After reading all of the posts about what needs to be done to save mountain bike racing, I have the answer. Come race!!!

The 4th annual Firecracker is just around the corner. The soccer field will be open for parking (not camping). New and improved course, including the return of the "Unclimbable Climb". That's right, the legend, DC, from The Coast Hills Classic fame, has rented me (Dave, the check is in the mail) a climb that has a bounty on it. The first person from each category (Beginner, Sport, Exp/Pro) who climbs it earns $20 cash and a badge of honor that can be worn with pride the rest of your cycling career. It is a lap course, great for spectating, standing near the start/finish will let you see them twice a lap. Each lap is about 4 miles long with about 1000 feet of climbing.
