Some wear at spoke crossings is normal. Braking torque is greater than driving torque and on a front wheel especially. Also spoke tension should be at the higher end of the range for that particular spoke type and wheel. In addition, the outbound spokes on the disc side should angle forward for optimal life. Lots of miles and road grit add to the problem. Take heart in the fact that spokes almost never break at the crossings.

I put a front disk on my commuter and now I'm noticing wear where the spokes cross next to each other. I realize disk brakes put a lot of torque on the spokes but the wear doesn't seem right. Anyone else see this?
