Evan
Cat 1 CX = Cat 1 road and pro MTB
Cat 2 CX = Cat 2 road and semi-pro MTB
Cat 3 CX = Cat 3 road and expert MTB
Cat 4 CX = Cat 4 or 5 road, and beginner or sport MTB
Are these "proposed" categories the only ones? I mean, would there also
be separate/different categories for women and masters? I see one
potential massive problem with this system - we will simply not be able
to accommodate the number of riders we have into only four categories.
Lumping Cat 4/5 riders AND Beginner and Sport Mtb into one category is
doable, but what about the people who really are beginners to 'cross? I
certainly don't want to scare them off.
Our local CX races have become victims of their own success, and the
more we have to restrict categories the more difficult it will be to get
new riders into the sport. Restricting the number of categories would
also require massive field sizes or limitations on the # of riders in a
field. Neither of those options would make people happy.
While we are on the subject of CX, has the Crusade considered the option
of cloth numbers for people who register for the entire series? I'd pay
the extra $ to get a cloth number. I realize the inherent difficulties
of trying to use the same cloth number I use on the road, and understand
why that might not be the best option. But if that would work, it would
be even cooler.
