Yes, that's right, in keeping with recent posts, Disco Velo is pleased to announce that we will be offering NO MONETARY PRIZES at this year's season opening, fifth annual Hood River Cyclocross Classic. In fact, if I don't get off my butt soon, we won't even be offering ribbons!

Seriously, due to some course damage from the past few editions of this race, we have decided to give our "profits" to the Hood River Valley High School Cross Country running team so they can replace the bridges that have been condemned and removed. I'll also pick a few race numbers from each category randomly out of a hat and refund that rider's entry fee.

Entry fees will be $15.00 preregistration and $18.00 day of race. I'll post the flyer with categories soon (our categories will align with 'Cross Crusade, though we may not be able to offer as many). When the race race is over, I'll post our financial statement for all to see, along with a list of volunteer hours.

We have had to make some changes to the course this year (no bridges), so if you've done this race before, I recommend you get to Hood River early enough to pre-ride the course again.

Bring the whole family out and enjoy all that Hood River has to offer in the early Fall. We have had stunning weather for the past four years, so when you're done with your race, take the chance to go for a picnic, drive the Fruit Loop orchard tour, sample the local fruits, go to a wine tasting, shop the boutiques downtown, watch the kiteboarders and windsurfers on the water, go for a hike, head up the mountain for a MTB ride (if the fires are out), drive up to Lost Lake and see the sights when it's not 40 degrees and raining (for all MHCC racers), etc.

I hope to see all of you 'crossers soon!

Jeff Lorenzen
