bicyclist Hit, need ID (Surly, team rose city?)

I don't have anything profound to say but I have ridden with Mike a few times over the last few months.

I know in the previous message from Jon he mentioned 5 lives, but Mike also had a wife and kids. I met Mike a few months ago. He had just moved out here from the midwest and was very much looking forward to racing cross more than anything else. He was a great climber and I couldn't figure that out since there were no significant climbs from where he came from. He later fessed up that he grew up in Colorado with many climbs at his disposal.

He will be missed and it's another hard reminder that we need to be overly predictable when it comes to vehicles.

Horrible news. It seems 5 lives were lost that day; starting with the rider. The driver, her kids and husband while still alive will all be negatively affected. All due to a simple mistake and lack of attention. Surely, she needs to be prosecuted to the maximum extent of the law. How can we better educate drivers to watch out for bicyclists? Maybe petition the courts to force her and others like her to be responsible for spreading the word?

Just saw this email about 15 min ago. I called Wash County Sheriff's Dept. THey told me they don't have a report filed yet, so they had no information to share. I also called KGW. They will get back to me as soon as possible with any additional information. We had a team ride at 9am today in the same area (I didn't go). Have not received any other emails or phone calls from team members. This is another awful incident. As some of you know, that intersection of West Union and Helvetia is very open and visible from all directions. I would also suspect high speed and failure to pay attention to the road in this incident. Other jerseys with red, yellow and black would include some earlier River City Bicycles jerseys, and maybe the classic Saturn team jersey. Will hope to hear soon from KGW.

A little bit of an update. The news is saying that the rider was in a red yellow and black jersey. Could this be a team rose city rider?

I saw on the news that a cyclist was hit last night. Washington County doesn't have an id for the rider. It was on West Union and Helvetica. They are just saying a man in his 30s on a mint green bike. But I saw the bike and it was a green Surly. With this group of people I thought a green Surly was a bit more descriptive. If you have any informaiton call the Washington County Sherifs department.

I am sadened to hear another cyclist lost their life!!!!!!!!!
I have noticed an increase in road side memorials on Washington County roads from Motorists, Cyclists, And pedestrians
in the last 3 months.

I am seeing a pattern for motorists to use "The sun was in my eyes" excuse. I am a motorist as well as a cyclist,
If the sun is in my eyes while driving or riding I excercise caution. What are these motorists thinking?
