The subject of what to have on your ID while cycling is important.
What is really important and what is not is debatable but here is my
Opinion.
The single most important information that anyone needs to know about
You as a patient is "What medications are you taking?" This question
Tells everyone more about you as a patient than any other one piece
Of information. For example: If your answer is "insulin", well then
You are most likely a diabetic and the health care personnel will
Treat you accordingly.
The second most important item to have on your ID is weather you have
Any allergies to any drugs-not peanuts or shell fish. And getting an
Upset stomach when taking codeine is not an allergy but an adverse
Drug reaction. But getting a rash with wheezing from amoxicillin is
An allergic reaction. "NKA" stands for "No Known Allergies".
The second least important item anyone needs to know is your blood
Type. The only way you are going to get a transfusion is after a
Complete cross and type of your blood and that of a qualified donor
With one exception. The exception being if you are going to die
Immediately and need blood now-then you get O neg blood-the universal
Donor type.
The least important info you or any one needs: your insurance. All
Responders and hospitals must take you in for evaluation and emergent
Care per EMTALA (not necessary to know what it is). No one will turn
You away because you do not have the "correct" insurance or no
Insurance at all.
