Mike,

May I ask?

1. Instead of Shur-Clens, can I just use a bottle of my contact-lens

solution that comes in a squirt bottle and just squeeze the heck out of

it while aiming it at the victim's (me!) road rash? And I do remember

in the olden days making my own contact-lens solution, but I've lost the

recipe. Is that another possiblity?

2. The E-room staff always sends one home with a sock-like net around

your limb, securely holding the Tegaderm product in place. Now, in

Italy, you can buy these nets at the grocery store, but I haven't seen

them at our American stores. And not that I can picture you browsing

the first-aid aisle at Rite-Aid, but have you noticed them at any

particular store?

Thank you for any and all information you have on this touchy topic. ;-)

Mike is right about the lack of instructions (as well as the lack of

supporting data). The instructions on Tegaderm are pretty clear and should

be read thoroughly.

Especially the part about seeing a doctor if the wound begins to smell bad

:-)

Both of these are interesting articles but not terribly instructive. Of the

semi-permeable dressings, Second Skin is most available but less user

friendly and it is also fairly costly. I prefer Tega-Derm. How you apply

these dressings is fairly important too. Shur-Clens is a good product but

it isn't really much better than saline solution despite costing a lot of

money. If anyone has any interest in this subject I would be glad to give

you lots of info.

I will attest positive results you will see if you follow the protocols

mentioned in this article.

While learning of the evils of titanium bottom bracket spindles .. the hard

way, I acquired quite a nice road rash. I used Tegadeerm as mentioned in

this article and have seen miraculous results. Many people, cyclists and

non-cyclists have commented to me that they are impressed at how quickly my

road rash healed.
