Since ideas are free:

I bet *someone* could raise a few bucks for OBRA, junior racing or any
other worthwhile cause by starting a mud check at the various cross
races. Kinda like a coat check, but muddier.

You'd just have one or two volunteers walking around by the start line
and collecting jackets, vests, sunglasses, arm warmers, etc. and handing
out numbered tags with safety pins. Ya tag a racer and the racer's stuff
with the same number. When the race is over, racers come back and claim
their stuff and donate a buck to [insert your cause here]!
