I do not know of one cycling related Foundation
exisiting in the NW.
A Foundation is the kind of organization that would
address the very problem you identify.
If there are dollars out there, a foundation would
help to collect those dollars, rather than just the
non profit orgs that you feel are ineffective.
With a foundation, you can appeal directly for dollars
for your athlete yourself.
Remember, I am talking about two levels
1. non profit orgs exist and seek dollars to provide
service
2. a funding body, i.e. a Foundation seeks dollars to
give dollars
Also, this organization would be run by members from
all sorts of situations. Parents like you, coaches
from different teams, and outside players such as
educators.
In the beginning it would be small, but in a decade it
could be a real source of strength with a strong
legacy of support.
The national level Junior Cycling Development
Foundation has been very succesful at bringing
hundreds of athletes up to the next level, by
supporting travel and fees to development camps, and
even college scholarships.
We need to have a vision for the future now and work
together to bring this kind of service to the North
West.
