Bradley,

There has been extensive discussion about this on the crosscrusade forums
http://www.crosscrusade.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=899&PN=4

I've had a great year running 29r rims on my cross bike. They are about 5mm wider than the road rims I was running previously. I'm still running cross tires though and I'm running them tubeless (NoTubes system). No pinch flats or flats of any kind (knock on wood) since I built these wheels up. Last year I had numerous tire problems during races (and many many flats during training rides both last year and this prior to the install).

Plus with the NoTubes system, you can run much lower pressure than you normally would without, and they are very light.

The rims are the Stans ZTR 29 rims They are spendy, but well worth it. You can feel confident (almost) to leave your pit wheels at home!

Subject: [OBRA Chat] Advice on Burly Cross Wheels and Tires

This is my first season racing beginners on my Mountain Bike. I’m considering a cross bike but after 6 races I am concerned with pinch flatting, rolling tires, losing traction or bending rims. I like the stability of my continental cross county 26 inch tires which I run at a comfortable 35 PSI. It would be nice to some day ride a bike under 26 pounds. If I went with a cross setup, is there a wider 27 inch cross wheel option that can accommodate a beefy, reliable tire?
