The last weekend in May is Memorial Day Weekend- lots of people are out of town for other reasons. There *is* a bike race happening at PIR, albeit not OBRA: http://www.ohpv.org/PIR/index.htm . Come on out if your tastes run a little towards the "weird" side. Paceline tactics kinda go out the window:

Re: [OBRA Chat] overlapping bike racesI'll add a bit of reality here. Putting on two races on the same day puts a great deal of stress on the OBRA system. Trying to equip two races on the same day means gear shortages, hassles whith transportation, etc, etc. If you want to put on a race, plan on spending a lot of time planning and negotiating.

Remember also that bike races are very labor-intensive and there are fewer people each year who can be conned into standing out in the weather holding a slow/ stop paddle while trying not to get run down.

I agree with Todd. I think the Saturday conflict in this case ought to be repaired. Last year, Candi asked folks to consider supporting the Table Rock race more heavily. Great course, I think she's right on. But if you go there, you're likely to denude [ :) ] your team of ttt riders, especially in the smaller categories.

With the number of OBRA events, there's always going to be a lot of
overlap. In general I think OBRA and the promoters do a really good job
with avoiding conflicts within each racing discipline.

I do think there is a possible conflict between the TTT and Table Rock
Road Race. You can argue that road racing and time trailing are
different disciplines, but I think there is obviously a lot more overlap
there than say track racing and downhill mtb racing. Since the TTT
requires a Team, it'll likely draw more road racers than say an
individual TT.

What is odd here, is that this conflict occurs on a Saturday. As
someone who chooses not to race on Sundays due to other comittments, my
perception is that Saturdays are underutilized, at least amongst road
races and XC mountian bike events.

Saturday May 26th appears to be completely free of any events. Easy
solution there. Three events one Saturday and none the next.

While planning my race schedule for next year, I was disappointed to see
that a lot of races seem to overlap, more so than last year. I'm
specifically concerned with these dates ...

Weekend of May 19-20: Table Rock RR, Team TT, Race Around Williams MTB,
Swan Island Crit, and Falls City Firecracker

and

June 10: OBRA rehearsal road race, Test of Endurance.

Are these dates set in stone? Do we need a critical mass to request a
date change? What are people's thoughts on the schedule?

These problems usually take care of themselves. The promoters do not
want their attendance adversely affected by conflicts, so they usually
move their events to the extent it is feasible. Of course, sometime
venue availalbity or otehr conflicts make that impossible.

Then again, having the wealth of racing in Oregon, conflicts are to be
expected, and we should be thankful for the number of races we have.

These things usually take care of themselves, as the promoters usually
do not want to hurt their attendance with scheduling conflicts. I
think that you will find that the promoters will address there issues
to the extent that it is feasible. In some cases, the venue
availability or other commitments determine the schedule.

I agree with Chris that we're lucky to have choices, but I also share
Jessi's frustration with overlapping schedules. For example, April 14 we
can do Kings Valley and then April 15 Estacada TT (thank you promoters);
however, the following Saturday (the 21st) is empty, with THREE races
(mudslinger, Estacada TT, and Three Rivers road race) on Sunday the
22nd. ALL those races will have lower turnout than they would if they
were spread over two days. Seems like the three promoters could get on
the phone and try to divvy up the OBRA-ites rather than fighting over
them. Even if I couldn't do all three, I'd definitely do two if they
were both days. Now I'm limited to one place to spend my money. I
realize with this many events there will always be conflicts and
overlaps, and the promoters can't work out every race to fit your
schedule. But at least they could try to fit into MY schedule.

Oh, well, I guess I should've applied for the job of schedule
coordinator if I was going to complain.

I think that feeling lucky that there are so many races to choose from.
I guess that the key word is choose unless cloning becomes acceptable.
