Portland velodrome article

Glad to see something finally tangible I guess it must sound better coming
from local business people than an old messenger. Curiously enough no
mention of the memorial coloseum being a viable option, so I will state for
the record this facility requires no funding other than track and setup
costs, significantly less than building from scratch and as much as I love
Alpenrose no beer gardens no race crowd something to be considered when
marketing such an event. Lets not forget the days of old madison square
garden or the newark track beer and track racing are like siblings. Any one
that has been to tracks with beer gardens can quickly see why these venues
attract fans. My concern is that building a track alone will only serve the
needs of participants, this project should weigh in fan base right alongside
racing itself. Having been to world cup events is evidencw of what is
needed, outside of the racing I found the events boring, not at all fan
friendly or contemporary. Maybe the ADT center can afford to promote races
without a fan base but Portland will require some dynamic marketing to avoid
the same fate.
