Why does OBRA have insurance?

When you have the time, take a look at some of these links. As long as
this country remains sue-happy over, well, pretty much everything, from
too-hot coffee to cracks in the road, this will be the state of things.
Don't think this could ever happen to you? Wait until you crash and YOUR
insurance doesn't cover it. Who you gonna call? That's right, a lawyer.
And if you win, guess what happens? Your lawyer gets a bunch of money,
you get a little money, and we lose OBRA, maybe forever.

Last sentence:

Twenty-five cyclists have died during RAGBRAI over the years.

Racing a bike is potentially dangerous, and we accept that when we show
up at the starting line. Racing without insurance is just plain dumb.
Excuse me for not showing any sympathy when someone sends something to
this list asking us all to help you pay your medical bills because you
did not have the forethought to purchase even minimal insurance so you
can race your $3500 bike.
