We have had 624 join for 2007 so far. As you know, we will hold your 2006
number until Jan 15, after that date we will issue numbers in numerical
order according to category. This will mean that there will be no 300
numbers available after 1/15 and very few 500 numbers. If you want to retain
your 300 or 500 series number please join asap.

With your general homeowner's policy, it protects you under the liability coverage when you are LEGALLY liable to someone for either property damage or injury/death. There is even coverage available to handle medical bills if you have a cycling buddy over and he falls down your stairs in his cleats!
So if you are on a group ride and you crash into your buddy who is riding and you cause him injury/damage, you could be protected by your policy. If you blow a red and hit a ped, your policy would cover damages to them and same if you hit a car, or go into a window of a Starbucks...
There is an exclusion usually that if you are running a 'business' that your personal homeowner's would not apply. I don't know of a group ride that makes you pay to do but thought I would throw that out there.
Other notes about liability:
If a dog attacks you, that is a liability claim against the homeowner to pay for your damages. Same goes for thier child that runs you down on thier BMX bike (happened to an old teammate).
Another thought: If you are riding & get hit by a car then the car flees. If you have evidence to support that, you could have auto insurance to handle YOUR damages (injury and bike damage. I know Mark handles these types of cases. I am just the insurance guy that handles some if it.
A funny note: Your auto policy pays for damages to your buddie's bike that is on your roof when you drive into your garage...

David,
If I'm in a group ride and I put down a fellow rider, totally my fault,
sorry. What insurance will protect me? Homeowner's + umbrella?

Perhaps some of you who have been following or contributing to the debate on
if Master categories should commence at 35 or 40 may be interested to know
how it works in the UK and most of Europe.
The British League of Veteran Racing Cyclists (www.lvrc.org if you are
interested) has a category every 5-years commencing at 40. Therefore if you
are 40 to 44 you are a Category A, 45 to 49 you are a Category B all the way
up to 70 to 74 you are a Category G then over 75 is designated as Category
H.
Each race promoter decides how many different races to promote depending on
budgets and the number of riders in each category who register. Typically
it is A&B?s (40 to 49) / C&D?s (50 to 59) / EFG&H?s. (60+)
Regardless of how many separate races are promoted results are posted for
each 5-year category.
This has been a very successful formula in the UK and Europe where there are
numerous races for Master age riders.
A couple of other points about the UK system. Woman Masters, (Ladies in the
UK) can compete with Men Masters and are given a 10-year benefit. As an
example 40 to 44 year old woman would compete with the 50 to 54 old men.
? The LVRC allows (encouraged, in fact) riders to compete in an older age
group than their calendar age indicates. This is deliberately designed to
help people get back into racing, and move up the groups as fitness starts
to return.?
