campagnolo and shimano

I think the commonly accepted term for the various combinations of Shimano
and Campy is "Shimagnolo". 624 hits on Google!

I think you can call it shimcam... but only if you pass both tests.

When you do these combinations do you call them "Shampy" or "Camano"?

Just an inquiring mind...

Don is correct that you can get Campy spaced cassettes that work on
Shimano wheels, but last year I raced on three different wheel sets,
all using Shimano 10-speed cassettes with Campy 10-speed shifters, and
they worked flawlessly despite what Campy and Shimano claim.

Doesn't anyone in OBRA land go to bike stores? Anyway shimano and
campagnolo 10 does not go together. You can put shimano 10 speed on 9
and or 8 spd cassette bodies. However FYI you cannot put 9 or 9 on a
new durace (ie 2005 to 2007) wheel. You will need to use the small
spacer that comes with the new 10 spd dura ace cassette if used with an
older body. You can buy aftermarket cassettes that go on a shimano body
but are spaced for campagnolo.

I found the same, Miranda ran multiple wheelsets using Campy last year on
CPT. We used American Classic cassettes shimano splinned, campy cog, regular
campy on campy wheel and even a shimano 105 12-27 shimano wheel that worked
fine on her campy chorus bike, I personally don't like campy but it worked.

Freyensee, James P

2007-01-09

I have played with Campy-Shimano compatibility group-o stuff since 9
speed. I get 9 speed shimano cogs to work on campy shifting and
vice-versa with no problem. I was not able to do the same for 10 speed,
specifically 10 speed campy shifting using a 10 speed shimano cog.
Well, it worked but the shifting was not that great despite what fine
tuning I did. I looked at the specs and the spacing between gears on
campy and shimano is pretty different in the cassette for 10 speed.
Every shop will have their own opinion if it really works despite the
different spacing. I think it is really a hit-and-miss for 10 speed:
you are lucky if you get 10 speed to work using different rear
cassettes, and you are lucky if you do not get 10 speed to work using
different rear cassettes.

I currently run a 10 speed cassette that is campy spacing but fits on a
shimano hub. I actually don't think 10 speed is worth it (money,
increased chance of incompatibility) and all my other bikes (3) use 9
speed and various shimano/campy shifting/cassettes.

Don is correct that you can get Campy spaced cassettes that work on
Shimano wheels, but last year I raced on three different wheel sets, all
using Shimano 10-speed cassettes with Campy 10-speed shifters, and they
worked flawlessly despite what Campy and Shimano claim.

Doesn't anyone in OBRA land go to bike stores? Anyway shimano
and campagnolo 10 does not go together. You can put shimano 10 speed on
9 and or 8 spd cassette bodies.
