Since almost getting taken out by a pickup taking a right turn onto the road i was on / into me (i ended up sliding both tires and almost ended up under the pickup). I now run three "headlights" up front (and two tailights in the back),
It also is a good back up in case batteries in one light starts dying.
I tried out the following light:
http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=93712
Its $5. Also you can find the same thing or similar on Ebay sold in lots for much cheaper.
-It is really really bright. Looking at it from the front, it is AS bright as my Planet Bike "1 watt" 4xAA light. But doesn't thrown out quite as long of a beam. But It seems to last longer too between battery charges.
-3 AAA's (the only negative, AA's in my opinion are a little easier .. .) . But I use Harbor Freight cheap rechargeables and they last maybe 3 weeks at a couple hours every day.
-Attach to handlebars with looped Zip ties. This worked much better than i thought, I used a releasable zip tie on the handlebar, and a couple around the flashlight body. it makes it really easy to take the light on and off.
-It is totally sealed and the switch seems pretty good.
In hindsight i would probably get single AA LED flashlights, just because the single AA is easy to mess with, and cheaper. I find that having three lights up front, spread out a little, is much better than having one light for visibility..
Who want to go xc skiing? Looks like we don't have to go far to do it...
