FWIW, I oppose the change to 7.10.5. Fixed and freewheel bikes should not
be mixed in the same field even if the riders are confined to a single gear.
Fixed and freewheel bikes slow differently creating a safety hazard if mixed
together in a large field. Current rules allow exempting this requirement
for small field or other special events.

Proposed Category Term change for 2013
Some background
For close to 30 years MTB racing has offered Pro/Expert Sport and Beginner
then Semi-pro was added in the early part of the century by another
organization only to be taken out by said organization and through our
reciprocity agreement OBRA we followed suit.
In 2009 the organization adopted road terms to describe Mountain bike racing
and things have never quite been the same as we went along with the change
with a reciprocity agreement in place.
At this time no change in going away from road terms will be adopted until
at the earliest 2014 but these tweaks lay the foundation for possible future
changes in terms to describe ability relating to mountain bike racing.
1. Change the top level term of "Pro" to Open or Elite
i. In XC MTB racing the Pro field starts with the Cat 1 riders and are
split out for scoring and combined for top 3 cash
