As an officer of the OSU Cycling Club I would like to share the following letter
with all of you. Thank you for your consideration.

Dear Alumnus/Faculty/Supporter:
Did you know Oregon State University has a collegiate cycling team? Did you
know that for the past four years OSU has had at least two racers qualify for
the NCCA collegiate national championships? Did you know that in 2003 OSU
racers Doug Ollerenshaw and Barry Wicks won collegiate national championships
in road racing and cyclocross respectively? Did you know that in 2005 alone,
three OSU racers qualified for the road racing national championship? Sadly,
none were able participate due to a lack of funding.
Since last year, our club?s active membership has more than doubled. In order
for our riders to participate in the national championship races we will need
approximately $1200 per racer. Part of our club?s funding will come from this
spring?s OSU Omnium event, which typically yields about $2000. Another part of
this will come from the OSU Sport Clubs Program. However, this funding is
completely consumed in the qualifying events before nationals. If just one
male and one female rider qualify in each of the three disciplines (mountain,
cyclocross, and road), we will need $7200 for these few deserving racers to
participate in the national championship races.
In order to fill this funding gap we must pursue a number of fundraising
options. That is why I am writing you today. We are counting on the
generosity of OSU supporters, like you, to help support OSU collegiate racing.
Any financial contribution you can make will bring us closer to our goal of
sending every deserving OSU racer to the collegiate national championships. If
you are unable to contribute financially, please feel free to suggest other ways
you can support our racers or other sources of funding we may pursue. Your
assistance will be greatly appreciated.
