Rules-Overtaking/Neurralization/Riding with riders other than

Candi Murray

2001-07-10

In a road event, a rider is not allowed to ride with another ride from

another group (if they were started separately). If a group of riders is

overtaking a slower group. The slower group should neutralize. What this

entails is slowing way down, riding single file or as close to the right

side of the road as possible and allowing the faster group to pass an

continue on at a pace that will not allow the slower riders to then

overtake them.

It is against the rules for riders to ride within a field of other

competitors. This happened in the women's field this weekend. The 3rd

chase group of women took pace within a men's group, they overtook the

second breakaway of women finished ahead of them. This is cheating and

should not be allowed. It should be punished with disqualification. If

you are in the faster group please remind these riders that they do not

belong in your peleton.

One other note, if something happens at a race that you question its

legality please talk to the officials at the event. The official 'protest'

period is 15 minutes after the posting of results. We cannot correct a

situation 1-2 days later. All of the officials appreciate this input and

do not see it as whining.

Thank you
