Hi Phil. Thanks for the invite. I've been thinking of riding with you guys
since last year, but I live in (way) North Portland. Is there any kind of a
ride board, or do you know anyone in Portland that would be willing to
carpool? Thanks

Eric

Hello OBRA land,

The racing season is upon us, and I'd like to use this opportunity to invite
those of you looking to join a Portland-area cycling team to consider Team
Oregon. We're fortunate to have so many excellent racing teams in Oregon,
but Team-O is unique, especially for those of you who are new to racing.

- We are one of the longest running cycling teams in Oregon's history, and
one of the largest.
- We have a proven history of taking enthusiastic new riders, introducing
them to racing, and helping them develop the skills to race safely and
effectively.
- Our goal is to develop riders step by step from their first race to a
seasoned category 3 racer, and we do it very well.
- Open acceptance. We don't do try-outs and we don't mandate race
attendance. If you want to race with us, you can.
- Family-friendly atmosphere. We're serious about training and racing,
but recognize the need to balance this with family and job commitments. We
don't put unnecessary pressure or expectations on each other. The goal is
to be challenged but above all to have fun.
- We look out for each other. We never leave a rider behind on any team
ride...period. We look out for each other in races, and everyone cheers
when anyone else succeeds.
- We have decades of amateur and professional racing experience on the
team, and these men and women are happy to help teach new skills.

What we do:
- For over 20-years, the Saturday ride has accepted all comers every week,
year round, rain or shine. A look at the top riders in our region will show
that for many, it all started with showing up to a "Saturday Team-O ride".
How do we know it's successful? New people show up every weekend and over
time these riders become active members of the Oregon bicycle racing
community. The ride typically varies from 40-80 miles depending on the time
of year. It is the foundation of who we are, and fosters the camaraderie we
have. What's unique is that anyone is welcome to come ride with us. We
will work with you to grow your abilities and introduce you to pack riding,
pace lines, sprinting and other fundamentals of safe but fast riding. Many
riders who struggle to finish our Saturday rides one year, win races the
next so we encourage riders of all abilities to try it out. The ride leaves
from the Hillsboro Liberty High School west-side parking lot at 9:30AM
sharp.
- We actively promote bicycle racing. Team-O is responsible for 2 Oregon
Uphill Championship races, and this year we're putting on the Elkhorn
Classic stage race. One of our members also runs the weekly Monday night
PIR series.
- We meet to talk strategy, share experiences, and learn from each other.
- We race and train together. This includes carpooling to races, warming
up together, sharing advice and lending a helping hand. If you're racing
alone, you're missing out on half of the fun!

Some successes last year include:
- 1st Cat-4 criterium championship
- 1st Cat-4 state road championship
- 1st Cat-4 state team time trial championship
- 2 state medals on the track
- 2 Cross Crusade victories
- 3 Cat-4 criterium victories including an overall series win
- A handful of Cat-5 victories at PIR
- And for 2007, congratulations to Rob Anderson for winning last week's
Cat-4 Banana Belt!

For more information, check out our web site at: www.teamoregon.org or give
me a call at 503-648-1772.

Happy racing!
