Steve Brown
ORBA Land,
If you do not want to get in trouble with "The Candi Hammer", you
will stop everything you are doing and contact your state senator and
representative to let them know you need their vote on Senate Bill
926 to build two new velodromes in Oregon. This is so much bigger
than track racing. This is about making racing a part of the fabric
in Oregon government. What I have learned over the past two weeks is
that there are many groups like Cycle Oregon, Travel Oregon and BTA
who are really pushing to make racing and riding a big priority in
government. And they are finding that many people in government are
listening. Those who are not yet on board are only waiting to hear
from you on how important these items are. If you are not willing to
advocate for yourself, how do you expect someone else to care. For
someone who has never been involved in the legislative process, I
have totally surprised at how well this can all work. But we need to
make ourselves heard.
If you have not contacted your legislator, please do so between now
and Monday. With a wet weekend everyone will be riding a little less
over the next three days, so you will have the time. Don't worry
about your race number, timing chips or sprint finishes. Make a
promise you will take 10 minutes before you get on your bike again,
to make a call, send an e-mail or letter supporting this
legislation. If you do not, you will make Candi mad, and you don't
want this. Think of all the things she has done for you, do
something for her.
Listed below are references to the bill and how to contact your
state legislator.
