RE Velodromes

Particularly since Portland already has Alpenrose, I think ya'll might
understand if us folks down the valley may not be exactly enthusiastic
about Portland getting another Velodrome.

There has been agitation down Eugene-Springfield way for a Velodrome from
a few people, but so far it's come to naught. The plan as I understand it
is to try and have a combination skate park/velodrome built by the City of
Eugene on land designated for a future park. However, people seem to want
to pay for Municipal pools and Soccer fields more than they want a
Velodrome. A 'drome is more likely to happen if the City of Eugene can
get a piece of that Velodrome funding bill.

My $0.02.

After reading all these excited emails about building two new
velodromes in Portland and southern Oregon, I am curious as to why
Eugene is not one of the proposed sites. Eugene/Springfield is the
second largest city in the state, we have a large cycling community,
and we are centrally located geographically. I certainly think the
proposal to build more velodromes is fantastic, but I am just
wondering (with a bit of jealousy) why Portland and southern Oregon
were picked instead of my town. Has there ever been talk of building
one here?
