2007 Tour de France

Monty Hill

Dude, just having fun, since my friend, Keith started the thread, with the idea that nobody would be interested in Cycling anymore just because of drugs. Just making fun of myself as much as anyone. I drove up to Seattle on a Friday, watched the Mariners, came back the same night, got home at 2am, and had a terrible stomach ache for 2 days from all the beer and garlic fries I consumed.

I can often be self deprecating and forget that this can be misinterpreted as threatening, Not my intention. And as Erik also knows me he probably understood my dry humor.

Hey Monty-

This might be the most idiotic comment on this list so far, and that's saying something. It's just not funny. Say nothing. And, if you are going to ask someone a question, use a question mark at the end of the sentence.

Yes, I'll watch it every time I have the opportunity, and for the same reasons that ball sports fans watch the World Series and the Superbowl:
Dope or no dope, it's still the peak of the sport, and it's still the hardest thing to win.

I'll say this, though, If Dave Z or Levi manage to win, I would not be surprised to see them go down in a blaze the same way Floyd has.

Is anyone really at all excited about watching professional cycling anymore?

You bet I'm watching! Still the most exciting thing on TV, after the
Stanley Cup. I think/hope cycling is on its way to becoming clean.

I'm rooting for anyone other than an American to win, as much as I like
Levi, Chris, and Dave. It's time to share the love, and right now the
world's already pretty fed up with us anyway.

Personally I'm pulling for Cadel Evans.

My enjoyment of the tour eclipses the inevitability of disappointing doping
scandals, so I will watch knowing the top guys are doped to the gills.

We are already seeing the Giro fallout - Italian newspaper reporting
possible masking agents contributing to low abnormal hormone levels in
DiLuca and other top finishers. These levels are normally seen in
pre-pubescent boys...

Just a slight oblique...

Does anyone know HOW they set up cameras/personnel for the Tour and other
stage races? I would assume that there is at least one expert racer who
knows the terrain and the racers and advises where and when to focus the
attention.

Absolutely, as well as just about every stage of the giro and vuelta, and
all the stuff on versus.
Especially with the grand tours there is a whole ambiance thing, and the
scenery, etc. A lot to enjoy even with the doped up riders.
I guess I would pick Levi as the all around even though I really do not want
to root for discovery.
Vino is gonna get busted for doping.
zabriskie will do a top 5 gc.
Valverde and all the traditional favorites will blow up somewhere
and watch the schlecks. and other newcomers.

I will be watching and enjoying and hoping that all is clean. I watched
before knowing it was not and enjoyed. Versus is again covering the TDF with
daily coverage.

Hey! Thanks for posting this schedule!! Now I just need to figure out what channel Versus?OLN is on down here in Ashland...

For the record, I'm really looking forward to watching this one since the whole thing is so up in the air, even moreso than last year...hopefully we'll avoid any doping scandals, too! I am still rooting for my Discovery boys tho!

Valverde is going to win it!!

I am not even pointing out all those guys who wrote me back last year
and picked Basso. HAHAHA!!!

The tour is always better when no American has a chance to win it. Then
we all have such diverse favorites instead of..."the American". That
makes for funner group rides.

I heard a rumor that Versus is going to broadcast the entire prologue in London from start to finish from the first rider to the last. Further, I've heard that there WILL be another team from the US in the ProTour next year. They're signing some heavy hitters from other teams. Hopefully all of this will help with interest in the US.
