1. Also all GC winners for the 2007 MT. Hood Classic Stage Race will get a
complimentary entry into the 2007 Elkhorn Classic.
NOTE: This offer is ONLY for the 2007 winner (1st place) of MT Hood (any
category) and ONLY for the 2007 Elkhorn.
2. Stage 1: The Richland Out-Back Road Race is a new addition to the 2007
Elkhorn Classic serving as a alternate to the Oregon Trail Road Race through
Union which is closed due to major structural rework. This deceptively
simple course will test not just fitness but also strategic racing as well.
With a moderate elevation lose on the way down to Richland, Oregon it's a
slight, but steady grade back home provide considerations all around as the
course winds through the scenic river canyons near the Snake River
wilderness area then the open valley floor of Baker City.
The Elkhorn Classic Bicycle Race shaping up to be another historic year
Racers from all over the country are registering and planning their trip to
Baker City, Oregon June 22 24th, 2007. We are seeing racers coming from
Northern California, Wisconsin, Texas and Canada. In years past we have 400+
racers that descend on the historic town.
³Its great to see such excitement from the community of Baker City in
hosting all the cyclists,² says Jim Anderson, race organization committee
member, ³They wont be disappointed!² ³The courses run along historic Oregon
Trail routes, and will challenge all cyclists that register,² Anderson says.
Races are divided into separate categories from Elite/Professional,
Intermediate, Novice/Beginner, Master (aged 40+), and Women. All levels and
abilities are welcomed and encouraged to attend the races. All that¹s
required is a helmet, a road bike and a sense of adventure. Oregon Bicycle
Racing Association (OBRA) licenses are not required prior to registering but
event licenses are available for $5 (for all four events) at registration.
Registration takes place online and by mail only, and is not available on
the day of the event. Registration ends on June 15th.
The courses run along Oregon¹s Elkhorn Mountain range, near the historic
Oregon Trail route. Each stage tests a rider¹s ability, from hill climbing
to endurance to tactical strength. A new course for this year is the
Richland Road Race which is deceptively simple course that winds and twists
along the snake river wilderness area. One stage not to miss is the big
party in downtown Baker City? The Gold Rush Criterium. The downtown race
start and finish is at Washington and Main St. The weekend ends with a
dramatic course finishing atop the Dooley Mountain pass. The finish atop
Dooley Mountain will have a fantastic awards party hosted by the creators of
the event, the Hobson Family. Food and drink will be provided, and awards
ceremony.
A special event for all children under 12 is The Shimano Youth Series Bike
Race. The event starts after the parade, and before the downtown races on
June 23rd. The start area will be at Washington and Main St at 2pm. All
participants are winners! Helmets required.
This event is a timed multiple-day stage race, with four stages. Each stage
is timed, and the winner is the one with the lowest accumulated time after
the last stage. Racers win cash prizes in the various categories.
Race runs June 22nd 24th.
