Now that we're well into the "real" race season, with testosterone levels reaching their peak, I thought it would be a good time to review why it always makes sense to sprint, no matter how far back in the pack you are:

(1) You'll have an opportunity to upgrade broken components after the race.
(2) The emergency room is a great place to meet other riders.
(3) The pack will thank you later for your demonstration of superior bike handling skills.
(4) David Douglas will probably single you out at the next race for your "never give up" attitude.
(5) You can never have too many pairs of socks or water bottles.

Seriously though, let's all try to keep the rubber side down out there. We're racing for fun, not money. If you're not in position to finish top 10, just roll through and try again next week. The rest of us *will* thank you for that.
