"We've had riders on the banking as young as 7 and as old as 65."
Does that include Phil Sanders and Jack Springer match sprints?

Hey everyone,

There's lots of reasons to ride the track. One of the best reasons is because it's fun.

The classes are tailored to anyone who shows up, for the most part, but they are really designed around the beginner and the novice rider/racer. We've had riders on the banking as young as 7 and as old as 65.

The classes are just about every Wednesday, 4/25 through 8/29 starting at 6pm, but come early to rent a bike. Rental bikes are "first come, first served" and the classes maybe limited to 30 riders. I try and get there around 5pm to start renting out bikes.

Bring water, helmet, shoes and peddles if you desire, and exact change or check, please. Checks are to be made out to "Velodrome Committee"

Rental bikes are $5 and the class is $5.

You can use your own bike if it passes OBRAs track bike requirements for mass starts. Basically, that states the bike must be a fixed gear and have drop bars with plugs.

Here's the Alpenrose Velodrome web site for additional info.: http://www.obra.org/track/index.html

If you need any bike gear and/or bikes, especially for the track here's Portland best resource: http://www.bike-central.com/shop.php This shop also sponsors and puts on the racing Friday nights, which has specific events for beginning track racers. See flyer at, http://www.bike-central.com/track.php

See ya this season.
