I do not even know any of the parties involved in this unfortunate incident,
but after reading this update, I just felt compelled to send out my deepest
and sincerest heartfelt empathy and support to them all. Thanks for their
address.

Much Love and Light to him, his family and friends.

May he heal quickly and powerfully.

Blessings,

Jeb Stewart

I received another note from Chad's mother today. Chad is still in the ICU
at Emanuel. He has had some complications and still requires a feeding
tube. He has some left sided facial paralysis and possibly some left arm
paralysis, although he has a clavicle fracture on that side which
complicates evaluation of this. He has problems with speech. I am sure his
family would appreciate any support we could give them.

I spoke with Chad Smith's family today. Chad had bleeding between the skull
and brain which was putting pressure on the base of his brain. This is a
life threatening problem so he was taken to surgery and the blood was
removed to relieve the pressure. His family tells me that he is doing well
but he is still confused and remains in the ICU at Emanuel. It is expected
that he will be in the hospital or at least in rehab for a month or so. I
am sure that all our thoughts will be with him and his family. His family
has asked that any cards or letters be sent to their home; 4694 SW Comus
Place, Portland, OR 97219.

The family of Chad Smith are looking for answers. If you saw or were
involved in the crash in the 3/4 field. Can you send me a note?
He is at Emanuel, we have asked permission to release the particulars of his
condition. When we get the ok we will let you all know.

Must have been something iffy - the results show an amazing % of DNFs!

We are so lucky to have such a generous group of people at the races, who'll put everything else aside to help another rider. The folks with medical training are an absolute blessing. It was a long night in the ER, but the wait was worth the news that nothing is broken and my brain is... normal? Just some bruises and pride to nurse. Thanks again, everyone.
