OBRA-land,

The Eugene Roubaix is coming up soon, celebrating the Nothern Classics style hard-man racing in Europe. It should be a grand old time. Just to clarify, the laps are about 13 miles and there is only a single, 1 mile stretch of gravel, dead straight, followed by "Kantrellberg", a short sharp climb and a quick descent. The rest is rolling.

This course is safe and fast, and all roads are in great shape, contrary to the impression you may have gotten from previous posts. It is safe! The gravel is steam-rolled and hard packed. It is relatively small, even, and there are no potholes. However, like any gravel, it can cause flats if you are riding skinny, thin tires. Personally, I am riding 25mm tires with 110lbs front and rear, regular road bike.

Since there is some debate about neutral wheels being available, Midtown Racing is offering a discount:

Bring a set of wheels to toss in the wheel car, get $2 off your entry.

Should your wheel be used and flatted, that should buy you a new tube. Sound like a deal? If you pre-register, bring your wheels and get $2 cash back at registration.

Come on, folks, come ride the inaugural Roubaix, bring good legs and good tires, and have a great time.
