Westside Ride of Silence

Salvatore Collura

2007-05-04

On Wednesday, May 16 7PM, from the intersection of SW Hall and 5th in
Beaverton, the inaugural Westside RoS begins. The 6 mile loop will have
ghost bikes placed in locations throughout Beaverton in geographically
representative locations where 6 cyclists have been killed on Washington
County?s roads since 2005.

In addition, we?re placing ghost bikes in those actual locations along the
county and state ROW where our comrades were struck down. Michael Kalan, NW
Helvetia and W Union, Eric Lyager, NW 185th & W Union, Sheryl & Darrel
McDaniel, Hwy 47 south of Forest Grove, Mike Wilberding in Beaverton, and
Eric Kautzky, Tualatin-Sherwood Rd.

This longer ?no-host? ride is designed to appeal to groups such as OBRA who
wish to pay tribute, raise awareness, and offer encouragement that motorists
and bicyclists can safely share the road. The length, route and number of
memorials passed by any group is self-determined. We will provide maps
which will show the locations of the memorials, you plan the route.

Eric?s widow Lorna, will be there to say a few words before the 7PM start
about HB 3022 which would establish a bicycle memorial provision sanctioned
by the state.

The link to the RoS website ? http://rideofsilence.org, will provide more
details about the history and scope of the event, and I have more on the
local rides.

Thank you for your time and consideration,

Hal Ballard
