Re: State Championships & Jerseys

I haven't raced lately, but hope I can still comment...

I like seeing the Vancouver area people that I know show up for races all
season long. And I like to see local-racers-turned-pro come around once in
a while to remind us that they really are at a different level than the guys
who have to train at lunch-time. But I don't think they belong competing in
the OBRA championships.

I've always thought it should be limited to Oregon amateurs. I don't
understand why people keep insisting we need to let non-Oregonians and
professionals compete for OBRA championship medals. Other states have their
own championships to ride in. There are US Pro championship races. Those
are their venues to earn the champion's title. What's wrong with the local
amateurs having their own championship to aim for and earn?

If we need to make an exception, because we have an out-of-state population
that are regular racers here in Oregon, then maybe a rider could "earn"
their resident status. They would have to hold an annual OBRA license for
consecutive years, and compete in some number of races prior to the
championship - either ## during the current year, or ## during the prior
year, or some combination.

I don't think there should be an exception for professionals.
Again...nothing personal against them. The couple that I personally know
are great guys. But I shouldn't have to beat someone who does this for a
living to be the Oregon champion.

By the way...to tie the two threads together: I looked at my jersey from a
few years ago. It says "Oregon Champion," not "OBRA Champion." Guess
that's one of the things that need to be corrected in the new design.

But doesn't that rider list Oregon as home? The catagory is PRO,1,2 right?
