Colnago question #2

Ike,

If you'd like you can easily replace the fork with an new carbon fork and convert to an new aheadset style head set. I did this a few years back with my Serotta, which also originally had a 1" threaded steel fork. I instantly lost a pound of weight (maybe more?) and the bike still rides great. It's my main race bike and I love it. Don't sweat the extra weight from riding an older steel frame. Trust me, it won't be the bike that will hold you back from anything. Hang onto the original fork as you'll want to keep it together as a frame set if you ever sell it (or just want to go back to the original fork).

By the way I converted to a Reynolds Ouza Pro fork; they still make them in a 1" steerer. I'm pretty sure there are other brands out there as well that are still available in 1" steerers.

I'm also looking @ a 1995 model Master Light. The difference in this frame and newer frames I believe is that this one take a 1" threaded head set. Is there a down side to this?
Thanks,
Ike

Ike,

Downside is that if you ever want to "upgrade" to a carbon fork there
are few, if any, choices. Upside is that a 1" steerer steel fork is
lighter than a 1 1/8" steel fork.

The master light is a great frameset. If you're not swayed by the latest
trend toward everything composite and it fits, then you should give it a
shot.
