scappose trails

First I want to say that the trails behind the first blue gate are open for riding. I have been in there removing windfall and so have some other folks from PUMP. I am not sure of exact status, but most of the trails should be pretty good. This weekend will be the first semi-dry one we have had out there in ages. If you get out enjoy.
But.....
Day before yesterday Longview Fiber started heavy duty road upgrade in the area where my Skeet Chute (John Joy named it Headhunter) trail starts. THIS IS NOT IN THE AREA I MENTIONED ABOVE. They have posted their standard "NO ENTRY" sign just inside the gate. It is very important that we do not go into "that area" when they are working and especially when posted. Please let anyone you know that may be considering going out there to ride (in the nice weather coming up) to NOT enter there. At present we might be able to go in from below (as that entry is not posted) and then STAY OFF the UPPER SECTION of trail that goes to area they are working. Another rule of thumb with regard to Longview property is if the gate is OPEN... do not enter as well. That open gate means that they are in their working and do not want us in their way.
I hope to get out and check this out if not tomorrow, then Sat. or Sun. Right now I have a sore throat (first time I can say I have really felt sick since Feb of 05) that is no fun. Uck!!!!
It is so important that we "abide" just like the dude or even better by their rules of engagement. We are so lucky that they let us ride on their property. I hope mtb riders do nothing to harm that relationship. Yeah it is a ways out of town, but so close when you look at the cost of fuel for motor vehicles.

A heads up for mountain bikers!

I just returned from the scappose trails. Looking good. I did notice that Longview Fibre had posted a NO ENTRY sign on one gate (Not the gate into the trail network) next to a clearcut so I assume they are either going to cut more in the area or spray for broadleaf. A reminder to all using the Longview property to please obey their rules. If they post a no entry sign... don't let a mountain biker be the one breaking their rule. It would be a SWIFT method for us to lose the use of these trails. Find another place to ride.
We have been very fortunate the last two summers that they have not posted the NO ENTRY FIRE DANGER signs as well. Things are still moist out there so fire danger is not the reason for the one sign I noticed on another gate... most probably chemical spraying (not good for people, dogs or for that matter most of the wildlife that lives on their property) is the reason at this time of year.

Anyway... just a reminder of how lucky we are to have these areas.
